Top Down Design saves time
Updated: Mar 1, 2018
Top Down Design or Skeletal modeling does take much more time to start but the time savings are on the revisions. Generally I will start with a dirty model (a model with constraints) or a solid in the conceptual design stage. This allows me to move fast and keep the creative juices flowing while working out the initial geometry. Next I take the pertinent parameters from the original design and start from scratch using only Skeletal modeling techniques and practices to start the project.
At this point I can bring in other designers and drafters to start building the project while still maintaining full control over the entire design.
Revisions can be and usually are the most taxing portion on a design budget but with Skeletal modeling revisions become simple and efficient (and almost enjoyable).
